The Gateway to the Life of Faith

Baptism is the first step on our journey of faith — a joyful celebration of new life in Christ and a welcome into the Christian community.

Baptism is the first of the seven sacraments and the gateway to the life of faith. Through Baptism, we are welcomed into the Christian community and become children of God. It is a joyful celebration where the Church, represented by family and friends, promises to help the newly baptised grow in faith and love.

Preparation and Celebration

At Acton Parish, Baptisms are normally celebrated on the first and third Sundays of each month. Parents are encouraged to take part in a short preparation meeting beforehand, helping them to understand the meaning of this special sacrament and their role as the first teachers of their child’s faith.

Godparents and Family Support

Godparents play an important role too — chosen for their faith and example, they promise to support the child’s spiritual journey. Together, parents, godparents, and the parish community welcome the child into the family of the Church with joy and thanksgiving.

Booking a Baptism

Families wishing to celebrate a Baptism in Acton Parish are invited to contact the Parish Office to arrange a suitable date. Baptisms take place on the first and third Sundays of each month, following the 12 noon Mass in St. Brendan’s Church.
A Baptism Registration Form will be provided when booking, and parents are asked to return it to the Parish Office along with a copy of the child’s birth certificate. The parish secretary will confirm the date and provide details of the preparation meeting, which all parents are encouraged to attend.
For all enquiries or to begin the booking process, please contact the Parish Office at office@actonparish.ie or by phone on 065 679 1023.
